ANGELIDAKIS’S WORK INAUGURATED AT BRESCIADUE

On 12 February 2024, BrixiaDue, the monumental site-specific intervention that Andreas Angelidakis conceived for the entrance of the station Bresciadue, in Via Cefalonia, was inaugurated.

As in an imaginary archaeological find, four imposing Greek columns, each 13 metres long, transform the buttresses above the descent to the tracks, offering passengers an ironic journey through time.

The work responds to SUBBRIXIA's invitation by capturing in the underground layers of the metro a metaphor for the stratification of time, an unexplored world where everything is possible: this is how the ancient city, Brixia, moves into one of the most contemporary and technological places in the city.

A new permanent work thus becomes part of SUBBRIXIA, the contemporary art collection that develops as a large public exhibition along the 17 stations of the Brescia metro, promoted by UBI Fondazione CAB, realised with Brescia Mobilità Group and the Municipality of Brescia, with the curatorial coordination of NERO.

SUMMER SERVICE STARTS ON 9 JUNE

In conjunction with the end of the 2023/24 school year, from Sunday 9 June 2024 and until Wednesday 11 September 2024, the metro and buses will followIn conjunction with the end of the 2023/24 school year, from Sunday 9 June 2024 and until Wednesday 11 September 2024, the metro and buses will follow the summer timetable. The metro (in service every day from 5 a.m. to midnight, except on Saturdays when the service ends at 1 a.m.) follows the non-school weekday timetable from Monday to Saturday, while it follows the holiday timetable on Sunday and on public holidays. All bus lines in the urban area of Brescia and the 14 surrounding municipalities will also follow the summer timetable from Sunday 9 June: the weekday summer service will operate from Monday to Saturday and the holiday summer service on Sunday. As usual, with the summer timetable coming into force, the line 6 Brescia San Gottardo will reactivate the extension to the summit of Monte Maddalena. Lastly, please note that due to renovation work on the bridge of Collebeato, which limit the route of line 11 to only Stocchetta, from 9 June 2024, a shuttle for the area of Collebeato will be in function. "Just as on that 2 March 2013 the first subway journey was totally free of charge, to allow as many people as possible to experience the new means of transport, today too, after 10 years, we wanted to give the same experience. "For the entire day of Thursday 2 March, from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m., there will be a desk inside each of the 17 stations where our dedicated staff will distribute a special, limited-edition ticket: it will give people the chance to travel for free on the subway on Sunday 5 March. "Completing the subway celebrations will be Luca Font, an internationally renowned street artist and a leading name in the contemporary art scene, who will decorate one of the subway maintenance buildings at the Via Magnolini depot. The work will begin shortly, but the artists style can already be admired on the bodywork of a train that has been set up, for the first time, also on the external bodywork: to allow art to be enjoyed not only inside the subway stations, but also while travelling. "Finally, the occasion of the subways important anniversary, as well as the year in which Brescia is the Italian Capital of Culture, was taken to publish Arte in Metro, a photographic volume in which the ten years of the subway are recounted through the eyes and works of the artists who have contributed - and will contribute - to making it a true museum of contemporary art.
